BANDA MUSICALE DI GIAGLIONE APS
The Giaglione Band is one of the oldest and most prestigious bands in the Susa Valley. It was founded in 1854 under the name "Società Filarmonica Giaglionese" and has since accompanied the town's main festivals and celebrations.
The idea of founding a band in Giaglione arose from a group of 34 music enthusiasts who, in 1854, decided to gather together to play primarily at civil and religious celebrations.
The band quickly grew in number and quality and, over the years, performed on numerous occasions, both in town and beyond. In 1889, the band participated in the Susa band competition, taking second place.
In 1978, the band was joined by the Spadonari, a troupe of dancers who wear traditional costumes and perform a ritual dance called the "sword dance."
Today, the Giaglione Music Band consists of approximately 50 musicians and continues to be an important cultural institution for the town. The band regularly performs at festivals, anniversaries, and concerts.
The band has participated in numerous important events, including:
- The National Alpine Gathering in Cuneo, Turin, and Asti
- The Gathering of the 1st Alpine Group in Susa
- The Band Gathering organized by Leone XIII of Giaveno
In 2024, to celebrate its 170th anniversary, concerts and a Band Gathering were organized with local bands, culminating in a giant paella for 300 guests.
The band is also committed to promoting musical culture and organizes music courses for children and adults, participating in music education projects in schools.
The Giaglione Music Band is an important testament to the vibrant musical tradition of the Susa Valley, a source of pride for the town, and contributes to keeping the local cultural heritage alive.
