CORO CITTA' DI TRAPANI

ASSOCIAZIONE DI CANTI E DANZE POPOLARI CITTA' DI TRAPANI APS

The "Città di Trapani" Folk Song and Dance Association was founded to research, maintain, and disseminate, through its folk singing and tradition group "CORO CITTA' DI TRAPANI," the art, culture, and folk music of Sicily, especially Trapani and its province. This association uses technical resources and people with proven aptitude in the field of folk traditions to preserve and preserve the traditional folk cultural heritage, which the Trapani area is rich in.
The association was founded by veterans with many years of experience in folk traditions. Driven by the same interest and love for the island's popular culture, they wanted to continue the delicate and complex journey of folk traditions, always with greater commitment and vigor, making their experience available to everyone. This experience is essential for bringing the true essence of local and regional folklore and tradition to the attention of the general public. They also succeeded in forming the "CORO CITTA' DI TRAPANI," a homogeneous and compact group that will be and must be the pride and flagship of the City of Trapani, the ancient cradle of Mediterranean culture.
The "CORO CITTA' DI TRAPANI" folk singing and tradition group draws on research conducted in the collections of Alberto Favara, Leopoldo Mastrigli, F.sco Paolo Frontini, and other experts and researchers of musical art and folk culture, such as Giuseppe Pitrè, Salvatore Salomone Marino, Giuseppe Cocchiara, and Antonino Uccello, to promote awareness and understanding of the customs, traditions, and musical character of Sicilian music at the time.
The traditional folk costumes worn by the members of the "CORO CITTA' DI TRAPANI" are drawn from the collections of Salomone Marino, Pitrè, Cocchiara, and Antonino Uccello (illustrated collection).
They were exhibited at the National Ethnographic Exhibition in Milan in 1881 and subsequently at the one in Palermo in 1890-91.
The musical instruments used during the performances are: Marranzanu – Bummulu – Friscalettu – Tammureddu – Acciarinu,
which are also known as archaic instruments, complete the picture: Accordion – Guitar, Bass, Mandolin, Violin.
The dances performed by the Group are: Ballu a chiovu – Fasola della Tubbiana – ‘U vasuneddu – Jolla – ‘U Nozzu – Fasola – ‘U Roggiu – Contradanza.
The “CORO CITTA’ DI TRAPANI” (CITY OF TRAPANI CHOIR), made up of approximately 25 members and all members of the Group, perform pieces drawn primarily from Alberto Favara's collection – “Corpus of Sicilian Popular Music” – medieval and Renaissance (during the Christmas season) and traditional folk music at other times.
