GRUPPO FOLKLORICO “CITTA’ DI CASTROVILLARI”

ESTATE INTERNAZIONALE DEL FOLKLORE APS

The "CITTA' di CASTROVILLARI" folk group was founded in January 1984 by a group of friends with diverse folk backgrounds, but with the shared desire to continue the tradition founded in 1929 by the late and beloved director Aldo Schettini.
The beauty and originality of the costumes, rich in color and embellished with gold embroidery, and of course the lively and cheerful singing and dancing have earned the group a reputation both at home and abroad, participating in numerous folklore festivals.
The group has participated in major international events representing Italy and Calabria, including participation in the most important folklore festivals, including Gannat and Biarritz (France), Portugalete (Spain), and Vigodna (Slovakia). Among the most popular performances are those in Mexico during the 1986 World Cup, in 1992 and 1994 in Santa Fe, Argentina, in 1997 in Nagoya, Japan, in 2015 at the Milan Expo, and participated in the 51st International Folklore Festival of Chateau-Gombert (Marseille), in 2016 at the "Aulona Folk Festival" in Albania, in 2017 at the Kiel Woche in Germany, in 2018 at the Bistrita International Festival in Romania, and in 2019 at the Columbus Day celebrations from October 10 to 17 in New Jersey, USA. In 2024, the group participated in the Lantern Festival for the closing of the Chinese New Year in the city of Qingxu, China. In 2025, it returned to the Gannat World Festival (France).
