Every year, in the first half of July, more than two hundred folk dancers from around the world will enliven Treviso and the surrounding area at the International Folklore Festival called "Sile Folk," organized by the Pastoria del Borgo Furo. "A group," explains president Gianni Marini, "that takes its name from the shepherds who once wintered in the outlying villages, outside the city walls. Our goal is to sing and dance the traditions of the people who lived along the banks of the Sile River, with songs that tell of chair-making, broom-making, fishing-tool making, and much more." The folk festival begins in Piazzale Burchiellati among the market stalls, and then gathers again in the evening at Porta Altinia, marching to Piazza dei Signori, where, to the delight of the Treviso residents, the main performance will take place.
