ASSOCIAZIONE CULTURALE FOLKLORICA I PICCIOTTI DA PURTEDDA

ASSOCIAZIONE CULTURALE FOLKLORICA I PICCIOTTI DA PURTEDDA

The "I Picciotti da Purtedda" Folk Cultural Association was founded in May 2002 with the specific aim of spreading the traditions, culture, and history of the Agrigento people around the world. The group is composed of boys and girls, with a professional orchestra featuring traditional Sicilian instruments.
The choreography is designed by Maria Rita Napoli, and the music is directed by Mauro Samaritano and Giuseppe Carbone.
This group has participated in folk events throughout Italy and around the world. Every year, we participate in the most important folk festival in the world, "Il Mandorlo in Fiore," held in Agrigento, where groups from all over the world come.
The typical Sicilian costumes consist of antique black shoes, tights, black shorts with sweets on the sides, a shirt, a vest, and a sweet around the neck. The women's costume consists of a long dress.
The group performs folk dances dedicated to fishermen, such as "Ietta la Riti," which tells the story of fishermen returning from long voyages. Serenades like "Nicuzza," which tells the story of a man who loves a woman madly and gives her this beautiful melody.
The songs "Ciuri Ciuri," "Vitti na Crozza," and the dances Muzurka, Polka, and Tarantella—fun is guaranteed.
