ASSOCIAZIONE GRUPPO FOLKLORISTICO CITTA DI AGRIGENTO
The folk group Città di Agrigento delivers a performance rich of song and dances linked to the 18th century rural Agrigentinian life style. The songs, all choreographed, are mainly inspired by themes of love and labor, highlighting through typical sweet melodies, hard work in the fields with the deep relationship that tie the farmers to their land. The dances, which highlight the dynamism and suffering of a people who react to bitterness of life, clearly shows how the Sicilian people was affected by the influence of other civilizations. They use a Mediterranean rhythm to represent the true means of life of our people, made strong and combative only by the depth of innate spirit.
Finally, the music, faithfully reflecting the authentic Sicilian folklore, played with the typical instruments (cane flute, accordion, guitar, jew’s harp, drum circle, jingles and jug) which were the popular tunes of Agrigento in the eighteenth century. The Group has participated in the most important events in all five continents.
