The "I Picciotti di Matarò" International Folkloric Group (dedicated to ancient Sicilian traditions) is a non-profit cultural and folklore association. It was established in conjunction with the Sicilian Folklore Festival and the "SAPERI E SAPORI... DI MATAROCCO" (Knowledge and Flavors of Matarocco) festival—events we both conceived and organized. We have represented Italy at international folklore festivals in 16 European countries.
The group consists of forty-four members—including singers, dancers, and musicians—all united by a shared passion for Sicilian culture. We draw upon years of experience gained in other local folklore groups to share the folk traditions of Sicily through song, dance, and music.
The association’s repertoire of songs and dances draws from collections by authors such as Favara, Pitrè, and Salomone Marino, with arrangements and artistic direction provided by the group's founders. These traditional folk songs reflect various aspects of life—from peasant existence and love to moments of joy and hard labor.
Our traditional dances include those historically performed during festive occasions: the Tarantella, the Controdanza, and the *Jolla*, a dance specific to our city.
